Promoting sailing and social activities for all the family.
Welcome to the Plym Yacht Club, our club house and bar are based at Oreston. In 1970 a few keen boat owners conceived the idea of forming a sailing club in the Plymstock area, they had no money, no place to meet but plenty of enthusiasm but with this enthusiasm they created and built on to form the Plym Yacht Club. In those days the club had several moorings and club boats were mostly moored in the Plym making the Clubhouse very convenient. Now a days the Fleet is spread across Plymouth.
We are now an enthusiastic family orientated sailing club, run by volunteers. We offer both yacht racing and cruising, if you haven’t got a strong pair of sea legs don’t worry as we also offer a strong social side. We run a weekly Friday Night Racing Series in the summer around the Sound and have a strong youngsters group with regular Tuesday Cadet Club where the youngsters are given sailing instruction by a RYA qualified instructor in our fleet of Feva’s and to progress to racing as the sessions continues.
Through out the year we hot our club house, the Quiz Shield for through the winter with cash prizes and the overall Quiz Shield. In the winter months we also hold Welly Walks at various places in the surrounding area followed by a pub lunch. Children and dogs are also welcome especially if under control. They are usually in the order of 3 -
Whether you are completely new to sailing, looking to get back on the water, improve your skill levels, sail, cruise regularly or just join us for social events you will find a warm, friendly welcome at the Plym Yacht Club. We run race series during the summer months we run two concurrent Friday Night Racing series which make a relaxing end to the week and which currently have about 20 boats entering. These are sponsored by Yacht Haven who also sponsor the Cadets. There are long distance races sporadically during the summer at weekends to places like Fowey, Salcombe, and Dartmouth and back sponsored by Ullmans Sails.
