Mini Regatta Day Two

Early start for all the support team. Paddy away to lay the turning mark in Bigbury bay at first light. Kevin’s catering crew preparing the picnic packs. Start box opened with Elaine, Joseph Alan and Frances running the coastal start. Mark layers in the new PYC rib giving the PYC buoys an airing. RWYC Fullmar with John Ingram and Keith Davies to coordinate the J’s. Not forgetting the host of unnamed volunteers in the club making all clean and ready.

With a Westerly increasing in the sound from 4 to 10 knts. Sunshine and a flat sea. What’s not to enjoy. A simple course out the sound round to Bigbury Bay and home for après sail at the Plym Yacht club on the Quay. Twenty two boats on the water made for good viewing let alone the racing.

All three starts were heavily contested. A few tried their spinnakers from the off. Most left it until exiting the sound. From there a great leg to the first mark, watched over by Paddy on Pearl Fisher. Then a beat back into the sound before a quick leg to St Nicholas before finishing. Pete Duffy who always makes his outings worth while got First whilst Prima made it easy for him by circling on the start to pick up a winch handle dropped from an anonymous entrant. Beers all-round I guess.

In the sound, a great turnout with eleven J24’s. A windward leeward course set by John assisted by Keith. The J’s continued their battle from Friday’s round the cans. Pheonix and Cacoon swapped first and second. A hard fought race by the whole fleet. Two races today hosted by the RWYC with the cruisers mixing it with the J’s.
