Yacht Racing
We run a season of friendly and competitive yacht racing, which includes both inshore (around the cans) and coastal events.
Competitors include those quite new to the sport, family crews and some who have experienced racing at a high level. Boats taking part need to be able to race safely in strong winds without rescue boat cover and they currently range from comparatively small keel boats and sports boats to larger cruisers.
Specific safety requirements for entrants in all races are given in the Notice of Race.
What we run
The inshore programme starts early in the season with the ‘Plymouth Gin Series’ which takes place over 4 or 5 Sunday mornings in March/April, with two short or one longer race on each day.
Our most popular event, which typically attracts over 20 boats during the Summer, is our “Friday Night” series. This consists of two 10-week series of races, with the first series starting in April and the second series ending in early September.
The Autumn series takes place on Saturday afternoons for six weeks in September and October.
The coastal programme consists of a ‘Long Distance’ day race, a weekend racing to Fowey and back and in most years a weekend racing to Salcombe and back. The coastal races also contribute to the Plymouth Ullman Series.
