Cruise Reports & Plans

The vagaries of our British weather and pressure on marina/pontoon space make organising a schedule of ‘cruising in company’ events very difficult and prone to cancellation. Locally, the Cattewater Cruising Club (CCC) runs such a Programme and we’ve negotiated for PYC members an open invitation for you to try 2 taster cruises with them. Just contact Alan Eaves (CCC RCS) to join their next cruise. Their Programme and contact details are posted below.

The PYC approach to group outings is to meet at PYC on Wednesday evenings 8pm and plan for an activity for the days and weekend ahead – with possibly a better view of the likely weather. For those unable to attend and really the best solution for individuals who’d like some cruising company is to post on the PYC Cruising & Moorings WhatsApp page their intentions. All of the declared PYC Cruising Members are also members of this WhatsApp group.

Who would like to help organise a BBQ ashore at Dandy Hole – a very fine traditional event that needs re-instating?

To add a layer of interest to local cruising – we have launched two summer projects for PYC Cruisers.

There is also the PYC Anchoring & Moorings Guide which lists local to Plymouth safe anchorages by wind direction on the day.

The Plym Yacht Club Cruising section keeps a list of cruising boats and contact details for their keepers.

Entry onto the list is entirely voluntary, and the list is only visible to other Club members.

Please update your membership details on MemberMojo to be included in this list.

DCP Cruising Trophy

DCP Cruising Trophy

One of the prizes awarded at the Annual Prize Giving is the DCP Cruising Log Trophy for the best log of an event or cruise undertaken by a PYC member.

The log can be any length and submitted by either the skipper or one of the crew, young or old. The subject matter can be a day sail or an intrepid cruise. It can be technical or light and whimsical. It can be an extract or copy of the actual yacht’s log, pilotage notes, or be a magazine-type article. It should, however, be both instructive and entertaining to read.

Entries can also be created using a digital log app such as SailTies where you can log voyages and sailing experiences to share with others.

There is a Group page for Plym Yacht Club which you can view from the ‘Groups’ tab in the app or by following this link:

https://sailties.net/group/plym-yacht-club

Group members can easily add voyages to the page and its leaderboard by tapping the ‘Add to Group’ button on the voyage screen.

All entries are gratefully received. Please give it a go!

Logs should be submitted to cruising@plymyachtclub.org.uk by November 1st and in time for the Annual Prizegiving.
