4th Friday Night Race
Yet again the fleets observational skills were tested. The start line and hence outer distance mark was set to the Mallards Beacon. Which provoked several boats to take a closer look to confirm. With a steady breeze from the South West and the first mark being either New Ground or Melampas (depending on the class), the bias meant you had to have eyes in the back of your head and be on your toes.
By the way if anyone had trouble hearing the sound signals don't mention it to Joseph. The compressor failed and Joseph responded to the call to action. All said and done the fleets got away with only a few having to abort and try again. The Squibs had an excellent start with all boats close on the line. With the next start, Hugh showed that there was more than one way to approach although there were others and some had to return for a second go. The B Fleet learning from those that went before lined up in an orderly fashion. However when the lady says there is NO room you better believe her.
Anyway the breeze was falling, skies were darkening, drops of water were starting to fall so off I went to the club for a meal.
