Rise of the Black Sails

Well here we are again three of us in the start box for the Plym Yacht Club Long distance Race. The offshore Northerly breeze was back again, with sustained gusts of around 14 knots. Glorious sunshine and rising temperatures greeted the fleet. Noticeable in the fleet is the rise of the Black sails with over half the boats sporting them. HMS Scott sportingly went through the sound around 10:45 clearing the way for the combined start. The fleet started well back with many up to speed under spinnaker through the line. The fleet favoured the western entrance on their way to L4 (halfway to the Eddystone). From there it was back to Duke rock through the Mallards and back out to Queens Ground before finishing through the Mallards for the last time. As the crow flies 19 miles, the first boat was in just after 14:00 with the last over the line just before 15:00.

Our thanks to Joseph for staying to take the finish times. Mind you, as the compressor couldn't be fixed overnight he probably need to get his breath back from giving the sound signals.
